Any donations of food or equipment are also gladly accepted. OBR is a charitable trust and can offer tax receipts for financial donations if required. We have contacts in a number of government and non government organisations that deal with animal welfare, bird rescue and conservation issues. In 2016 Canterbury Raptor Rescue was taken over by Oxford Bird Rescue and the focus on all raptors was undertaken. We have been involved in animal welfare and conservation for a number of years and originally started in bird rescue volunteering at Canterbury Raptor Rescue back in 2011 rehabbing their owls. When possible we also run an education and awareness program visiting schools, community groups and local events helping spread knowledge about our local bird birds of prey and how people can help them. OBR looks to engage the local community in the work they do and encourage people to get involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and release stages. We operate the shelter around a serious health issue so we do not have set hours but do try to make ourselves available as often as we can. Now due to health issues OBR is only accepting local Little owls and ruru.Īs we are a small, self funded husband and wife team we do not have the resources or manpower to always be able to collect birds so we do rely on people being able to bring them to us at times. Over the years OBR has worked with numerous species from around the South Island, specialising in birds of prey since 2016. Oxford Bird Rescue is a rehabilitation facility based in North Canterbury that now solely works with Little owls and ruru.
